Dr Grace Gunasegaram

MBBS (Hons), FANZCA

I am a specialist anaesthetist with Associated Anaesthetists Group. After graduating with Honours in medicine in 2000, I completed my internship and 2 years of residency at Monash Health. My anaesthetic training was based at Austin Hospital, but also included time at the Mercy Hospital for Women, Royal Children’s Hospital and Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. In 2015 I completed a Graduate Certificate in Clinical Ultrasound through the University of Melbourne.

I have a wide range of practice that includes anaesthesia for major abdominal surgery, vascular, ENT, ophthalmic, paediatric and obstetric anaesthesia. I have a special interest in using nerve blocks to reduce pain after an operation, particularly in limb surgery and epidural anaesthesia for obstetric patients.

I am currently a visiting anaesthetist at the Northern Hospital and the Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital. In addition I work at several private surgical centres around Melbourne including Epworth, Knox Private and St. Vincent’s Private.

I am involved in training anaesthetic trainees, other members of staff, medical students and paramedics. I am a member of the Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and keep up to date with the latest anaesthetic techniques and research via the ANZCA continuing professional development program.

I am an office bearer with the Australian Society of Anaesthetists (ASA).

Your Surgery
Before your surgery, I will speak with you about any medical issues you may have and describe the plan for your anaesthetic in detail. In general, most medications should be taken right up to the morning of the surgery with the exception of those that affect blood clotting and blood sugar levels. If you are in any doubt, you can contact me through the office.

My fees are calculated having taken into consideration the complexity and duration of the anaesthetic management. There might be an out-of-pocket expense involved with the anaesthetic fee.
