I graduated from the Medical School at the University of Melbourne in 1993. I completed my internship and two further years as a Hospital Medical Officer at St Vincent’s Hospital. I entered the training program of the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists in 1997 and gained my Fellowship in 2002. My anaesthesia training was at the Geelong Hospital, St Vincent's Hospital, the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, the Mercy Hospital for Women and the Royal Children’s Hospital.

From July 2001 to January 2004 I was an Assistant Professor at the University of California, San Francisco. I gained extensive experience in neuroanaesthesia and published research in mechanisms of opioid tolerance and peripheral inflammation. I am registered as a physician in the State of California as well as in Victoria.

I am now a public hospital anaesthetist at St Vincent's Hospital and am also in private practice. As well as general cases, I anaesthetize for neurosurgery, other specialty surgery and paediatric ophthalmic, ENT and dental surgery. I work regularly with trainees in the public hospital and have prepared study materials in anaesthesia which are in use both here and in the UK. I am involved in the assessment of the performance of foreign-trained anaesthetists seeking to practice in Australia. I do not attend drug-company sponsored promotions or perform commercial consultancy work.
