Dr Kate Barrett

MBBS (Hons), FANZCA, MPH, B BioMedSci

After graduating with honors from medical school at the Australian National University, I undertook internship and residency at St Vincent’s Hospital, Melbourne.

My specialty anaesthesia training was based at St Vincent’s hospital, but I also spent time at The Alfred, The Royal Women’s hospital, The Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital and The Royal Children’s Hospital to gain a broad experience across all specialties.

I further developed my interest in obstetric anaesthesia and pain relief in labour by undertaking a specialty fellowship at The Royal Women’s Hospital. I gained further experience in thoracics, ENT, vascular and major abdominal surgeries with a fellowship at The Austin Hospital.

During training I completed a Masters in Public Health with an interest in quality and safety in medical practice and I continue to maintain my interest in this area.

I currently practice at St Vincent’s Hospital and The Royal Women’s Hospital where I am involved in general, orthopedic, plastic surgery, ENT, neurosurgery, obstetric anaesthesia and teaching of doctors in training.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my young family.
